First edition. Octavo, bound in disbound in wraps, pages uncut and more importantly unopened along top edge, with the appendix. William Smith was vice president of the American Philosophical Society. The printer, Benjamin Franklin Bache, was the grandson of Benjamin Franklin, a printer and publisher, who died of Yellow Fever in Philadelphia in 1798 at the age of 29, making him about 23 at the time he printed this. The appendix prints some writing of Benjamin Franklin. In very good condition with some darkening, soil, edge wear to title. Rare on the market and only occasionally appearing at auction.
