Dwight D. Eisenhower Signed Appreciation Token Card.

Rare original token of gratitude card signed by the 34th president of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower, from the collection of his trusted military aid Robert Schulz. Measuring 4.25 by 2.5 inches with the Presidential Seal in gilt the card reads, 'A small token of my gratitude for your helpfulness' signed, "Dwight D. Eisenhower." The card is displayed in a lucite block atop a wooden base with a silver medallion and button depicting Eisenhower and Konrad Adenauer. Accompanied by the miniature 49-star American flag which measures 11 inches in height mounted on a base bearing the text of the American Pledge of Allegiance that President Eisenhower took with him on all foreign trips between 1959 and 1960. With Schulz's son note of provenance, "Oral history: My father told me that this flag went with Ike on all foreign trips." The 49-star American flag was adopted on July 4, 1959 when Alaska joined the Union, and was replaced with the 50-star flag a year later upon Hawaii's admittance to statehood. The present miniature flag traveled with Eisenhower during this period which included his August through September tour of Europe which brought him to West Germany, England, and France where he held conferences with Queen Elizabeth II, Charles  de Gaulle, Harold Macmillan, and Konrad Adenauer. In near fine condition. A rare and unique piece of Americana.
