Rare sheet music for the song "Hurricane" composed by Bob Dylan with the lyrics by Dylan and Jacques Levy, signed by Dylan. Quarto, four pages, with a black and white photograph of Rubin “Hurricane” Carter on the front panel wearing his boxing gloves. Boldly signed in blue felt tip by Bob Dylan on the front panel. In very good condition.
Rubin “Hurricane” Carter (1937–2014) was an American middleweight boxer whose career and public identity became inseparable from issues of race, justice, and wrongful conviction in the United States. Arrested in 1966 for a triple homicide in Paterson, New Jersey, Carter was twice convicted in trials later criticized for racial bias and prosecutorial misconduct, spending nearly two decades in prison before his convictions were overturned in 1985. Bob Dylan wrote his classic anthem "Hurricane" about his struggle, and Muhammad Ali and thousands of others took up his cause. "When they come to list the greatest boxers, Hurricane's name isn't likely to pop up in the Top 10. But when they come to list the greatest figures of the 20th century, he'll be alone at the peak" (The Boston Globe).
