Giovanni Boccaccio's Ameto over Comedia delle Nimphe Fiorentine
Rare edition of this allegorical romance. Duodecimo, original full mottled brown calf with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in five compartments within raised bands, red morocco spine label, marbled endpapers, all edges speckled red, engraved title page. In good condition with rubbing to the extremities and a few small losses to the spine, slight splitting to the hinges.
Giovanni Boccaccio was an Italian writer, poet, correspondent of Petrarch, and an important Renaissance humanist. Often referred to as one of the "Three Crowns" of Italian literature along with Dante Alighieri and Petrarch, Boccaccio is responsible for the creation of classic works of imaginative literature such as 'The Decameron' and setting the stage of Renaissance Humanism in Italy.
