Royal octavo, bound in full morocco with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in three compartments within raised gilt bands, double gilt ruling and the motif for the Royal Air Force St. Athan stamped in gilt to the front panel, all edges gilt, gilt turn-ins, inner dentelles stamped in blind, illustrated throughout. In very good condition. Illustrated by Chesley Bonestell, Fred Freeman, and Rolf Klep. Edited by Cornelius Ryan. Foreword by the Astronomer Royal, Sir Harold Spencer Jones. Original prize plate from the R.A.F. Station in St. Athan dated 1953 affixed to the front free endpaper. Newspaper clippings about the awarded prize adhered to the front pastedown.
