First edition of Twain's humorous and semi-autobiographical work of travel literature with the frontispiece captioned "Titian's Moses" opposite the portrait of Twain. BAL 3386. Octavo, bound in full morocco by Stikeman and Co. with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt turn-ins and inner dentelles, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, with three hundred and twenty-eight illustrations by Walter Francis Brown, True W. Williams, Benjamin Henry Day and William Wallace Denslow. In near fine condition. An exceptional presentation.
Composed of a mixture of fictional and autobiographical events, Twain's Tramp Abroad follows the journey of two young men on a journey through central and southern Europe. The book is the fourth of Twain's six travel books published during his lifetime and is often thought to be an unofficial sequel to the first one, The Innocents Abroad.
