First edition of Pope's classic work on bowhunting. Octavo, original cloth, illustrated with 20 halftone photo plates. From the collection of Douglas Mauldin, although not marked. Douglas Mauldin acquired and became of the publisher of the Derrydale Press in the late 1980s, and reprinted this book in the "Legends of the Longbow Series." Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Rare, especially in this condition.
American doctor, teacher, author and outdoorsman Saxton Temple Pope is widely considered the the father of modern bow hunting. He developed a close relationship with a member of the Yahi tribe, Ishi, who was the last known American Indian to be raised largely isolated from Western culture and taught Pope how to make and hunt with bows and arrows as the Yahi did.
