World chess champion Fischer wrote this fourteen-page account following his detention in the Pasadena jailhouse over two days in May 1981, describing in vivid and disturbing detail his treatment at the hands of the police - choked by an officer, held naked in unheated cells, and denied food, water, and access to a telephone. Written in the years after Fischer had withdrawn from competitive chess, the pamphlet offers a startling window into the mind of one of the game's greatest and most enigmatic figures.
