"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster": First Edition of Wiseguy: Life in the Mafia Family; inscribed by Nicholas Pileggi and former FBI agent Joe Pistone aka Donnie Brasco
First edition of the author's first book, the basis for Martin Scorcese's masterpiece Goodfellas, widely regarded as one of the greatest films ever made. Octavo, original half cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the title page, "For James Ciletti who never gives up - best Nicholas Pileggi 5/14/91." Additionally signed by former legendary FBI undercover special agent Joe Pistone opposite the title page, "Joe Pistone aka Donnie Brasco." Joseph D. “Joe” Pistone, a former FBI agent, is best known for his six-year undercover operation infiltrating the Bonanno crime family under the alias Donnie Brasco, an effort that became one of the most significant and sustained infiltrations of organized crime in American history. Assuming the identity of a low-level jewel thief, Pistone successfully integrated himself into the New York Mafia’s inner circles during the late 1970s, gathering extensive evidence that led to over one hundred convictions and exposed the internal workings and vulnerabilities of La Cosa Nostra. His 1987 book, Donnie Brasco: My Undercover Life in the Mafia, provides a detailed firsthand account of the psychological and moral complexities of long-term undercover work. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket design by George Corsillo. Jacket photograph by Brian Hagiwara. A unique example.
