"Literature in Brazil began with landscape": First Edition of Samuel Putnam's Marvelous Journey; inscribed by Otto Frankfurter to Major Benjamin H. Namm
First edition of this history of Brazilian literature. Octavo, original publisher's cloth, top stain black. Association copy, lengthily inscribed by Otto Frankfurter on the front free endpaper, "To Major Benjamin H. Namm but for Brazil I may never have gotten to Ruow my most excellent friend and "godfather," to whom this last book on Brazil is sent with sustained admiration and gratitude. Otto N. Frankfurter June 28, 1948."Otto Frankfurter was a businessman, and the father of Anne Frank. He edited and published the first edition of her diary in 1947 (subsequently known in English as The Diary of a Young Girl) and advised on its later theatrical and cinematic adaptations. In the 1950s and the 1960s, he established European charities in his daughter's name and founded the trust which preserved his family's wartime hiding place, the Anne Frank House. Benjamin Namm was the president of Namm's department store in Brooklyn. Fine in a very good price-clipped dust jacket. From the collection of Major Benjamin H. Namm.
