First edition of Isaac Asimov's Of Matters Great and Small; Inscribed by him to fellow author and biographer James Minahan
First edition of Asimov's collection of scientific essays. Octavo, original half cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the title page, "To John Minahan who makes it possible for me to enjoy an article each month. With gratitude, Isaac Asimov." The recipient, John Minahan, was an American author, biographer, and editor and close personal friend of Asimov's. Jacket design by Margo Herr. Near fine in a very good dust jacket.
Asimov states in the introduction to the present volume, "Very much of my life is spent trying to decide how best to explain rather complicated phenonmena in such a way that people can understand without suffering too much pain in the process." Here, Dr. Asimov explores such topics as the farthest distance in the universe; why astrology is sheer nonsense; ho eclipses occur; and why the North Star keeps shifting in an attempt to explain the wonders of the universe and man.
