Duodecimo, bound in full modern morocco by Bayntun-Riviere with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, all edges gilt, gilt turn-ins and inner dentelles, marbled endpapers. In fine condition.
The Oxford Book of English Verse, 1250-1900, chosen and edited by Arthur Quiller-Couch, appeared in 1900. It rapidly established itself as the classic anthology of English poetry, running through twenty-one impressions in the next forty years and selling nearly half a million copies. The present edition is a new anthology that widens the range of poetry initially included in Q's compilation in an attempt to represent the variety of English non-dramatic poetry from 1250 to 1900.
