First limited de Luxe edition of practical angling book focused on fly fishing for trout in smaller streams and flowing rivers. Octavo, two volumes, bound in full goatskin with gilt titles to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers, frontispiece, with ten illustrations and tipped in prints. Volume two only contains 36 actual specimens of artificial flies. One of 60 numbered copies, this is number 5. Volume two is signed by the tier Stuart Bowdin on the limitations page. In fine condition. Introduction to volume one by Leslie Magee. Housed in a custom cloth and leather slipcase.
Fly fishing is a method of angling in which fish are caught using an artificial “fly” cast with a weighted line and specialized rod, emphasizing precision, timing, and the controlled imitation of insect life. Beyond its technical demands—casting mechanics, reading currents, and matching local hatches—fly fishing has developed a distinct cultural tradition in which skill is framed as attentiveness to ecology and restraint toward the natural world.
