First edition of this detailed account of the University of Pennsylvania’s 1888–1890 expedition to Babylonia. Octavo, two volumes, original publisher's red cloth with gilt titles to the spine, front panel vignette of an Egyptian hieroglyph stamped in gilt, top edges gilt, tissue-guarded frontispieces, illustrated with maps, including folding and a pocket map in the rear of volume one, and black and white photographs. In very good condition with rubbing, signature to the front free endpaper of volume one.
James Punnett Peters’ Nippur; or, Explorations and Adventures on the Euphrates: The Narrative of the University of Pennsylvania Expedition to Babylonia in the Years 1888–1890 (1897) offers a detailed account of one of the earliest large-scale American archaeological missions to Mesopotamia.
