Ring of Fire by Lawrence and Lorne Blair is a television documentary and accompanying book that chronicles the brothers’ decade-long exploration of the Indonesian archipelago during the 1970s and 1980s. Combining anthropological observation with personal narrative, the work captures the rich cultural, spiritual, and ecological diversity of Indonesia’s outer islands, many of which were little known to the Western world at the time. The Blairs document traditional rituals, indigenous cosmologies, and remote societies on the cusp of modern change, presenting their journey as both a scientific and spiritual quest. The narrative reflects a blend of romanticism and ethnographic interest, marked by the brothers’ fascination with mysticism and the human capacity for adaptation.
