Volume XI of the Urry edition of Chaucer's brilliant poetical works. Octodecimo, original full speckled brown calf with a morocco spine label lettered in gilt and elaborate gilt tooling to the spine in five compartments, engraved frontispiece of Chaucer's Dreame. In very good condition with some light rubbing to the hinges and extremities, light toning to the edge of the text block.
Widely considered the greatest English poet of the Middle Ages, Geoffrey Chaucer is best known for The Canterbury Tales. Chaucer also achieved fame in his lifetime as a philosopher and astronomer, composing the scientific A Treatise on the Astrolabe for his 10-year-old son Lewis. Among Chaucer's many other works are The Book of the Duchess, The House of Fame, The Legend of Good Women, and Troilus and Criseyde.
