New edition of this bestselling book of recipes and kitchen instructions, with one hundred and fifty new and useful recipes. Octavo, original full brown sheepskin with gilt titles to the spine, morocco spine label, raised bands within six compartments. In near fine condition with the lightest toning to the endpapers. A very sharp example.
Hannah Glasse was one of the most famous recipe book authors of her time, with her 'Art of Cookery' being held as the dominant reference for home cooks in much of the English-speaking world in the second half of the 18th century and the early 19th century. Glasse made the specific choice to write in plain English so her writing might not only be intelligible to high society but to the servant class as well. Early editions such as this one were not illustrated.
