Finely bound example of this classic Western by one of the masters of the genre. Octavo, bound in full polished calf by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, gilt titles and ruling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, triple gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, gilt turn-ins and inner dentelles, top edge gilt. Signed twice by the author on both the front free endpaper and title page. In very good condition.
First published in 1925, The Thundering Herd follows a team of buffalo hunters who are determined to explore the inhospitable Staked Plain and uncover a scheme to blame the Indians for a Buffalo massacre. The novel was adapted into the 1925 American silent Western film of the same name, now lost, and later the 1933 American pre-Code Western film directed by Henry Hathaway and starring Randolph Scott, Judith Allen, Buster Crabbe, Noah Beery, Sr. and Harry Carey.
