Scarce first edition of this work by eminent Viennese economists Auspitz and Lieben. Octavo, original brown hard-grain cloth with spine and boards lettered and ruled in black, decorative endpapers, illustrated with economic graphs. In very good condition, embossed stamp to the title page and some additional pages, library stamp and sticker to the rear pastedown, some rubbing and bookplate to the front pastedown, "the Library of Isaac L. Rice presented in his memory to the Bates College Library." Rice was a German-born Jewish American businessman, investor, musicologist, author, and chess patron known primarily for his contributions to aquatic transportation manufacturing.
Written by successful businessmen Rudolf Auspitz and Richard Lieben, the 'Untersuchungen Uber Die Theorie Des Preises' is sometimes categorized as "the only Austrian contribution to mathematical economics and one of the outstanding contributions in the last two decades of the 19th century" (The New Palgrave III).
