Photograph of civil rights leaders Nelson Mandela and Jesse Jackson. Glossy black and white photograph of Mandela and Jackson sitting next to each other. Boldly signed by Mandela in black felt tip on the lower margin, "N. Mandela 15-3-2000," and by Jackson in gold ink, "Keep Hope Alive Jesse L. Jackson." In fine condition. A sharp image boasting a scarce combination of autographs.
Nelson Mandela has received more than 250 awards over four decades, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, the Order of Merit and Order of St. John by, Queen Elizabeth II and the Presidential Medal of Freedom from George W. Bush. "Mandela rightly occupies an untouched place in the South African imagination. He is the national liberator, the saviour, its Washington and Lincoln rolled into one" (Newsweek). Jesse Jackson is a prominent American civil rights leader, Baptist minister, and political activist whose work since the 1960s has significantly shaped the landscape of social justice and electoral politics in the United States. A close aide to Martin Luther King Jr. and a key figure in the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Jackson later founded Operation PUSH and the Rainbow Coalition, organizations aimed at advancing economic empowerment and racial equality. His presidential campaigns in 1984 and 1988 marked historic milestones, as he mobilized a diverse coalition of marginalized voters and became the first African American to be a serious contender for a major party’s nomination.
