First edition of this work by the award-winning journalist. Octavo, original cloth, frontispiece. Boldly signed and dated by the author on the front free endpaper, "Ida M. Tarbell May 1928." Near fine in a very good dust jacket.
Tarbell is best noted as being one of the original muckrakers because of her book, The History of the Standard Oil Company, which played a role in helping to shut down the Standard Oil monopoly. She is also recognized for the Life of Abraham Lincoln. This volume is the story of the adventures of Henry E. Wing, cub reporter for the New York Tribune in the last year of the Civil War, his account of his experiences and close relationship with Abraham Lincoln. It is based on his own letters and writings, supplemented by his many conversations with the author in the last year of his life.
