The 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers season marked the closing chapter of Jackie Robinson’s storied tenure with the club, as Brooklyn once again asserted its dominance in the National League. That year the Dodgers edged out the Milwaukee Braves to capture the NL title, demonstrating the resilience of the “Boys of Summer” core in a fiercely competitive late-1950s pennant race. In the World Series rematch against the New York Yankees, Brooklyn pushed the contest to seven games but ultimately fell short, underscoring both the enduring rivalry and the narrowing margins between the two teams. For Robinson, 1956 thus stands as a final emblem of his dual legacy: a veteran leader still contributing to championship-level baseball and a transformative figure whose decade with Brooklyn had permanently altered the social and athletic landscape of the sport.
