Andy Warhol (1928–1987) was an American artist and leading figure in the Pop Art movement, whose work revolutionized the relationship between art, consumer culture, and celebrity. Drawing on imagery from advertising, mass media, and everyday products—most famously his Campbell’s Soup Cans (1962) and Marilyn Diptych (1962)—Warhol blurred the boundaries between high art and commercial design, challenging traditional notions of originality and authorship. His innovative use of mechanical reproduction, particularly silkscreen printing, reflected both the aesthetics and anxieties of postwar American consumerism. Beyond visual art, Warhol extended his influence to film, publishing, and performance, cultivating an enigmatic public persona that embodied his fascination with fame and surface.
