Quarto, original publisher's cloth with gilt titles, illustrated with 17 lithographic monotypes of the work Savarin (1977-81), and black and white reproductions of Johns works. Presentation copy, inscribed by Johns in the year of publication on the front free endpaper, "For Clarice with love Jasper Johns 17 Nov: 82." Fine in a very good dust jacket.
Jasper Johns has often been called an "artist's artist." A painter, printer and sculptor, Johns is perhaps best known for his painting Flag. His use of classical iconography with sculptural techniques, such as plaster or encaustic in his paintings defined his work. One of America's foremost living artists.
