Rare Cinderella film print with a presentation mat signed by Walt Disney. Modern color glossy print of Cinderella in her ball gown at the fountain. Boldly signed by Walt Disney in blue artist's crayon in the lower right corner of an ivory presentation mat. The mat was originally prepared to hold an animation cell from the classic 1950 film and bears the original caption below the opening in the lower left corner, "From 'Cinderella.'" Matted and framed. In fine condition. The entire piece measures 15.5 inches by 14.25 inches.
The twelfth Disney animated feature film, Cinderella was released on February 15th 1950 after two years in production. It became the greatest critical and commercial hit for the studio since Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs of 1937, and helped reverse the studio's fortunes. They were, at the time, $4 million in debt and on the verge of bankruptcy. Adapted from Charles Perrault’s fairy tale, the film combines traditional European storytelling with mid-century American ideals of perseverance, optimism, and moral clarity. Technically innovative in its use of rich color palettes, rotoscoping, and character-driven animation, Cinderella reinforced Disney’s narrative formula of virtue rewarded and played a key role in establishing the studio’s princess archetype.
