First edition of this analysis for peace post-World War II. Octavo, original cloth. Presentation copy, inscribed and signed by both authors on the front free endpaper, "To Harvey P. Keller With the good wishes of Herbert Hoover." Additionally signed by Hugh Gibson. Near fine in a very good dust jacket.
"One of the outstanding differences between this war and the First World War is the amount of speculation and planning about the peace settlement being carried on while the fighting is still in progress. The present work of the ex-President and a prominent career diplomat is symptomatic of this trend. The authors make no pretense at drawing up a detailed and definitive blueprint of the new world, being content rather to review, very summarily indeed, the path that has led us to where we are, to analyze the lessons we can draw from this experience, and to suggest broad principles and procedures for the coming peace settlement. They advocate that the latter be achieved in three consecutive stages, the first of which shall include general disarmament" (Robert Gale Woolbert).
