Rare Fractional Currency Shield
Fractional currency shield with mounted specimen notes. Printed in gray on stiff board, with 39 mounted specimen notes, many of them signed by Treasury Department officials. In near fine condition. Double matted and framed. The entire piece measures 31.5 inches by 26.5 inches.
These shields were issued to aid in the detection of counterfeits among the fractional currency issued during the Civil War.
