First edition of this modern Christmas classic. Octavo, original red cloth. Accompanied by a typed letter signed by Valentine Davies and regarding staging that year's Academy Awards presentations. Octavo, one page, on Universal-International Pictures letter head, the letter reads in full, "February 5, 1957 Dear Buddy: Thank you very much for the kind words about me in your letter to George. I am just beginning to tackle the job and it is a big one. I only hope that this year's show lives up to your expectations. With best wishes, Cordially, Valentine Davies." The recipient Buddy Adler (1909–1960) was an American film producer who played a significant role in shaping mid-twentieth-century Hollywood cinema. As head of production at Twentieth Century-Fox during the 1950s, Adler was instrumental in overseeing commercially successful and critically acclaimed films, including Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing (1955), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. With two additional letters, the first dated February 4, 1957 from Buddy Adler to George Seaton and the second dated February 6, 1957 from Buddy Adler to Valentine Davies. In near fine condition with mail folds and staple holes to the top left corner. Near fine in a very good second issue dust jacket. Desirable.
Based on Valentine Davies' original, Oscar-winning screenplay for "the United States Christmas movie" (Clute & Grant, 650)— starring Maureen O'Hara and Edmund Gwenn (who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Kris Kringle). It earned Davies an Academy Award for Best Story.
