The Cresset Press limited edition of Herrick's collected poems. Octavo, four volumes bound in full publisher's parchment with gilt titles to the spine, top edge gilt, frontispieces and decorations. One of 750 numbered copies, this is number 51. In very good condition with toning to the panels, spines, and endpapers, and rubbing to the spines. Preface by Humbert Wolfe. Decorations by Albert Rutherston. Ownership plate of James Harold Leighton to the front pastedown of each volume. Housed in a custom cloth slipcase.
Seventeenth century English lyric poet and Anglican cleric Robert Herrick remains best known for his book of poetry, Hesperides, published in 1648 which includes the classic poem "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time", with the first line "Gather ye rosebuds while ye may."
