Dr. Maurice J. Oringer was a pioneering American dentist renowned for his significant contributions to the field of electrosurgery in dentistry. A 1928 graduate of the New York University College of Dentistry, Dr. Oringer dedicated over five decades to advancing professional and public awareness of oral cancer, emphasizing the critical importance of early diagnosis and treatment. He developed and promoted the use of electrosurgical techniques for the safe removal of suspected cancerous tissues, thereby minimizing the risk of disease spread during biopsy procedures. Beyond his clinical innovations, Dr. Oringer authored the comprehensive text Electrosurgery in Dentistry, which has served as a foundational resource for dental practitioners. In recognition of his enduring legacy, he established a scholarship fund at his alma mater in 2000, aiming to alleviate financial burdens for dental students and enable them to focus on their academic pursuits.
