First edition of this multigenerational narrative. Octavo, original half cloth. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Lori Rowell-Jones.
Herman Wouk began writing in World War II aboard the USS Southard. During his off-hours, he wrote his first novel, 'Aurora Dawn,' but it was his third novel, 'The Caine Mutiny,' that jump-started his career. After this, he went on to write a few plays, multiple non-fiction pieces, and twelve other novels, including 'Inside, Outside.' The first publication in seven years after 'War and Remembrance,' 'Inside, Outside' took a different approach from his previous novels, which focused primarily on war and the spirit of man. In a first-person perspective, the book tackled the quest for identity, the conflict of family and faith, and the ever-present American dream. Such an intensely personal read demonstrates the scope of the American Jewish experience and the great skill of a masterful writer.
