First edition of this classic work. Octavo, original cloth. Boldly signed by Dodger legend Duke Snider on the half-title page. Duke Snider nicknamed "the Silver Fox" and "the Duke of Flatbush", was a professional baseball player playing for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers (1947–1962), later playing one season each for the New York Mets (1963) and San Francisco Giants (1964). Snider was named to the National League All-Star eight times and was the NL Most Valuable Player runner-up in 1955. In his 16 seasons with the Dodgers, he helped lead the team to six World Series, with victories in 1955 and 1959. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket, bookplate and embossed stamp to the front free endpaper. Jacket design by Paul Bacon.
Herald Tribune sportswriter Roger Kahn’s “delightful narrative of growing up within shouting distance of Ebbets Field” covers the teams of the 50s before the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles. "A work of high purpose and poetic accomplishment. The finest American book on sports" (James Michener).
