János Kornai was a Hungarian economist noted as the first to perform analysis and criticism of the command economies of Eastern European communist states and macroeconomic aspects in countries undergoing post-Soviet transition. His 'A Beruházások Matematikai Programozása' outlines the use of mathematical programming as a tool in drawing up the five-year economic plan.
