Octavo, bound in full contemporary polished tree calf with elaborate gilt tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, morocco spine label lettered in gilt, gilt turn-ins and inner dentelles, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. In good condition.
Longfellow’s success spanned both sides of the Atlantic: "He wrote some of the most popular poems in American literature, in which he created a new body of romantic American legends, and when he died, he was the first American whose bust was placed in the Poet’s Corner in Westminster Abbey" (Columbia University Press).
