Octavo, original cloth, cartographic endpapers, illustrated. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author opposite the half-title page, "To Mr. Henry Drans with kindest personal regards of I. Sikorsky Dec 16 1942." In very good condition.
Russian–American aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky's first success came with the S-2, the second aircraft of his design and construction. His fifth airplane, the S-5, won him national recognition as well as F.A.I. license number 64. In 1939, Sikorsky designed and flew the Vought-Sikorsky VS-300, the first viable American helicopter, which pioneered the rotor configuration used by most helicopters today. He was inducted into the International Air & Space Hall of Fame in 1966.
