First edition of this illustrated companion to the 1979 Broadway production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita. Octavo, original boards, illustrated. Presentation copy, inscribed by Tim Rice on the title page, "Hello Richard all best Tim Rice." In near fine condition. Uncommon signed and inscribed.
The Tony Award-winning musical Evita began as a rock opera concept album released in 1976. Its success led to productions in London's West End in 1978, winning the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical, and on Broadway a year later, where it was the first British musical to receive the Tony Award for Best Musical. First recorded by a cast assembled specifically for the recording in 1976, the first stage cast recording of Evita was of the original London production in 1978. The original Broadway cast was recorded for an album released in 1979. Lloyd Webber and Rice produced these first three recordings.
