Rare autograph note signed by internet pioneer Vint Cerf. One page, partially printed, the note is written in response to the printed question: What was the intended purpose of the Internet? What sort of role did you wish for it to have in our lives? "It began as a project to support computer use in military command & control but it's [sic] civilian applications soon became apparent. I saw it as the beginning of an Internetted global society. Vint Cerf." In fine condition.
American Internet pioneer Vinton Gray Cerf is widely recognized as one of "the fathers of the Internet", sharing this title with TCP/IP co-developer Bob Kahn. Cerf worked as an assistant professor at Stanford University from 1972-1976 where he conducted research on packet network interconnection protocols and co-designed the DoD TCP/IP protocol suite with Kahn. He later worked at the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and funded various groups to develop TCP/IP, packet radio (PRNET), packet satellite (SATNET) and packet security technology for use in military command.
