First edition of John Hall Wheelock's authoritative bibliography of Roosevelt's works. Octavo, original half cloth. Laid in is a 3-page typed bibliography of Roosevelt's works composed by May Lamberton Becker, editor of the Reader's Guide of The New York Herald Tribune, accompanied by an autograph letter signed by her to Mr. Fred J. Daddaris of Long Island New York and dated June 25, 1947. May Lamberton Becker made her name as a literary critic and for more than forty years wrote a weekly 'Readers Guide', first with the New York Evening Post, then with the Saturday Review of Literature and finally in the weekly book section of the New York Herald Tribune, of which she later became literary editor. Fine in the rare original dust jacket which is in very good condition.
A diligent and skilled writer, Theodore Roosevelt wrote on a wide range of topics and genres, including history, autobiography, nature, hunting, memoirs, and editorials. In each of his works, the subject dictated the style, ranging from strong and exuberant to introspective and observant. In addition to his 47 published books, Roosevelt is estimated to have written more than 150,000 letters. His best known works include The Naval War of 1812 (1882), Ranch Life and the Hunting Trail (1888), The Wilderness Hunter (18930, The Rough Riders (1899), and African Game Trails (1910).
