FIRST EDITION OF VIRGINIA WOOLF'S FINAL NOVEL BETWEEN THE ACTS
First edition of Woolf’s final novel, published shortly after and in the year of her death. Octavo, original cloth. Introductory note by Leonard Woolf. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Vanessa Bell. A nice example.
Woolf is considered to be one of the greatest twentieth century novelists and one of the pioneers among modernist writers using stream of consciousness as a narrative device. The technique is beautifully illustrated in the present volume with Woolf’s vivid and multitudinous depictions of the streets London. Following her 1912 marriage to Leonard Woolf, the couple founded the Hogarth Press in 1917, which published much of her work. Woolf's final novel, Between the Acts, describes the events occurring during a pageant in a small English Village over the course of a single summer's day. The work was completely written, although not completely revised, prior to Woolf's death and prepared for the press by her husband, Leonard Woolf.
