First edition of Portis' classic work, basis for the 1969 John Wayne film and the 2010 Coen Brothers film starring Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by the author on the title page, "with best wishes Charles Portis." Fine in a near fine dust jacket with a touch of rubbing and wear. Jacket design by Paul Davis. A very nice example.
"It is a delight," wrote Walker Percy about Portis' western: "Mattie Ross from near Dardanelle, Arkansas, is here to stay, like Huck Finn." True Grit tells the story of a young girl's search for her father's killer "begins where chivalry meets the frontier" and introduces Rooster Cogburn, immortalized by John Wayne in the 1969 film adaptation that won him an Academy Award (Guardian).
